Sunday 5 January 2014

During one of my many travels many years ago, I met an old farmer in the small village of Pouxviel and he told me the tale of the man who carved wood in to footwear for everyone in the village.
He took me on a tour of the place on our way to where this man once lived and as we walked past the cemetery he smiled and said: we all go there someday so it's nice to have young blood among us. He became more solemn as we reached an old ruin. He explained that when he was a boy, the country was at war and the family who once lived there had perished there at the hands of the invaders. He stopped walking, pulled a soft blue packet from his shirt pocket and offered me a cigarette then said: “The horrors of war are well behind us now thankfully so let's go to a more cheerful setting”.
I followed him round a tight bend in the road until we reached a little path streaming off to the right. As we strolled down the path a renovated stone house came in to view and he pointed and told me that we had arrived.

Outside were seated Sandie and Ian, enjoying a bit of sunshine with drinks and a bit of chit chat. They invited us to join them so we sat down and they told me about how they came to settle in this quiet little village in the south of France.

I had almost forgotten about my visit to that region when I received an email from Sandie. She explained that Ian and herself had since retired and with all the spare time they now had on their hands they would like to turn their home in to a guest house.
They have many a story to tell and a relaxing environment to tell them in. So I asked her to do a brief write up that I could post up in a blog to offer the world a chance to discover a place to relax and learn about days gone by.
